James Navé

It was election day and we were all nervous. To get everyone warmed-up and happy, we passed around the Hillary Clinton masks and each pretended to be her, at least for a few moments. The funny thing is that we all found ourselves smiling brightly behind the masks, even though the smiles were totally hidden. Little did we dream that the next morning, we’d all be saying so-long to Ms. Clinton and bonjour to Monsieur Trump.

James Navé, poet and storyteller put us all at ease by beginning with a short discussion about how “The Moth” (the Art and Craft of Storytelling)  inspired personal stories and how the StorySLAM has grown into one of the most popular forms of modern storytelling. Afterward, Navé facilitated our own StorySLAM under the theme of RISK. Four individuals volunteered to take five minutes each to tell a true story – something that meant a risk to them. Each was very different, but most surprising was Pamela Shandel who told a story of synchronicity – a cross-country trip on a motorcycle that was more than memorable – not just with words, but with her entire body and soul, using a chair as a prop. Nonetheless, a good time was had by all and we all learned a lot.

From Navé -
STORYTELLING TIPS:

1) Practice your story until you can tell it off-book with no notes;
2) Trim your story until it's 5 minutes long;
3) Include conflict and resolution.

Then sign up for his Autumn Storytelling Workshop: Learn to Listen; Learn to Tell. Expand your personal storytelling skills with James Navé. Join him on Saturday, November 26 from 09:30 - 17:00. Paris location will be sent upon registration. Limit ten people. Learn more at imaginativestorm.com.
