Snippets of a Weekend in Paris

My friend said it was the most beautiful Starbucks in the world and uses it as one of her ‘offices’ – where she meets clients on a regular basis. ‘Course I have no way of knowing if it is, in fact, the most beautiful, since I personally ‘avoid Starbucks like the plague,’ but I must, say, it’s impressive. See for yourself: 3-7, Boulevard des Capucines, 75002 Paris, just near Opéra.

On route to the Musée du Luxembourg to see the “From Miró to Warhol” exhibition (on till February 22, 2009), a protest was taking place outside the Palais du Luxembourg about the Armenian Genocide. It was worth a chuckle to see the campaign slogan: “Yes, You Can!”…in English. Wonder where they got that phrase from?! Read about it in French at http://www.collectifvan.org/

Edith Piaf is alive and well at the Cirque d’Hiver. “Piaf Je t’Aime” is the first musical comedy about Edith Piaf’s life, on at the Cirque d’Hiver till December 20, 2008. Played by Marie Orlandi, Piaf really comes alive surrounded by a very talented crew of singers and dancers. The Cirque d’Hiver always makes a splendid venue, too! The Eiffel Tower is still blue and still sparkling. Even in the worst of weather, when you stand under it, that blue glow takes all the blues away. What would Paris be without it?

The Champs-Elysées is aglow as it is every year for the Christmas Holidays, with the “Grand Roue” anchored at Place de la Concorde. This year, the trees have tear-drop lights nestled among the other little white lights. Stroll down and take the “Roue” to the top for a great view of Paris day or night.

If you’re in Paris about to prepare a turkey for Thanksgiving with American friends, don’t forget to order it in advance from your favorite butcher and that the French birds cook in HALF THE TIME as their American cousins!
