BIG PROPERTY BARGAINS
Big properties are on sale for bargain prices these days. If you have a cool $26 million lying around, you could be the owner of Johnny Depp's French Village, Plan-de-la-Tour in Provence -- not just a home or a château, but an entire compound comprised of 37 acres made up of stone houses more than 200 years old. He's owned it 15 years and claims to have thoroughly enjoyed it.
Imagine it. You may very well be entitled to get money back from the French tax authorities!
The E.U. is about to rule on the legality of social contributions made by non-residents who can't and don't benefit from this tax. If you paid CSG (Contribution Sociale Généralisée) or CRDS (Contribution pour le Remboursement de la Dette Sociale) on property capital gains in 2013 on rental or sales income from 2012, now's the time to claim your refund.
The ruling is expected to be definitive before the end of July, but the European Court of Justice is pressuring France to comply. If you're selling a property now, don't expect France to consider the ruling -- the tax will be automatically deducted, and you will have to submit a request for the refund! Sad, but true.
PRIME PROPERTIES ALONG THE TOUR DE FRANCE
The near 2,500 kilometer bicycle race began on July 1, 1903 with 60 biking pioneers setting out from Montgeron taking on six mammoth stages ending in Paris. Still one of the world's most major sporting events, it started "as nothing more than a publicity stunt to sell some newspapers." It was a way to sell "tires, shoes, bikes, telephones and countless other items that the eager sponsors of the teams and the race want to promote." (bikeraceinfo.com/tdf/tdf%20history/tdfhistory1900.html)
Meanwhile, properties along the route are prime. News.Domain.com.au lists a selection of a few luxury finds along the route worth drooling over while you're waiting for the riders to whizz by...a petit château in Amiens, a hôtel particulier near Rennes, a château with views of the Pyrénées, a château and guesthouse in Aveyron, a luxury ski chalet in the Alps and a mansion apartment in Paris...to name just a few.
P.S. Shares for Fractional apartment ownership have sold very well in Paris--the last share for Le Notre Dame sold just this past week. There is now a resale share available in Villa Monceau, near Parc Monceau and the Arc de Triomphe. Don't miss this opportunity to own a share of Paris! Details available at Villa Monceau or by emailing email@example.com
