Getting To Know Each Other In Paris

Earlier this week, we had a “full house” at Parler Paris Après Midi on the upper level of La Pierre du Marais.

Regulars…WYNN JONES was back to have a beer and say hello; LYNDA SYDNEY, too, a freelance writer from Toronto; PATRICIA LAPLANTE COLLINS with her big black Labrador, famous for her Sunday Paris Soirées (write her to be on her mailing list at mailto:[email protected]); ANA ESCOMEL who was only here for a month and dreading her departure and CIARAN AND PATRICIA O’CARROLL who had braved Après Midi mid August in the most intense heat of the summer.

FLORENCE SENECAL who describes herself as a “true Parisienne” invited several of her friends…a very tired ROBERT SALITA who just did a 3-month post in the Peace Corps in Mauritania, JILL DANGER who has been in Paris more than 30 years and LANCE FROHMAN who’s looking for a job as a computer programmer and systems analyst.

This was the first time for IL Intern SIBEL PINTO, as it was for WEBSTER MCNUTT, a retired immigrant worker and his wife JACQUELINE, une française, who added stories of Paris; NADIA ARTYK, a journalist, who came to meet new people that have similar interests; MALCOLM BOOTH, a Californian who is thinking of moving to Paris and FRANK BACHANES, a New Yorker who came to drink wine, play music and teach English.

DAWN MARTIN, who we first met at Parler Parlor last weekend says she loves Paris and wants to teach it, breathe it, live it. BETTY AND JERRY BLIZIN, old friends who I met at a similar group years ago, residents of Tarpon Springs, Florida, came to say hello — they’re here for their annual monthly stay.

It’s always fascinating to learn about our readers goals and aspirations — why they come to Paris and how all of us can help make our time here even more rewarding. It’s a valuable exchange of ideas and getting to know new people who have lots in common.

We know it can be confusing, but Parler Paris Après Midi is not the same as Parler Parlor — Après Midi is simply a gathering spot for our readers to get to know one another and Parler Parlor is a structured way of practicing speaking both French and English.
