Dear Parler Paris Reader,
You might be on route to your family or friends just like I am for Thanksgiving. I'm heading south by TGV (Train à Grande Vitesse) to Aix-en-Provence, where I am picking up a rental car to drive to the tiny village of Ansouis. My friend, Barb Westfield, has her gorgeous village house there. It is there where we will dig into the T-day fixin's and enjoy the holiday with American friends.
Then, Barb and I will bus to Nice Sunday morning to spend a few days in my home-away-from-home, "Le Matisse." If you indulge me, as the weekend unfolds, I'll write about my findings in the region and will take you on a virtual tour of Provence as of Monday's "Parler Nice Nouvellettre®" when we're settled into the Riviera town.
At the FIFA World Cup in Paris
Besides Barb Westfield, there is Barb Perriello in my life at the moment who is also centered on life in Nice and Provence. She's a partner in "Opportunity Travel" in Delray Beach, Florida — a colleague of mine from the days when I worked for International Living, from as long ago as 2002. Very recently, she and her sister, Michelle Sedita, came to Paris for the FIFA Women’s World Cup™ soccer tournament this past summer where we reconnected after many years.
Here's what Barb wrote her own readers:
When I was in high school and heading to Paris for the first time, my grandmother Bess was right there at the airport for my send-off. She loved discovering new places and always told me that I should travel the world as much as possible. Her advice changed my life and laid out a path for my future.
I haven’t stopped traveling since!
Following that first trip, I’ve returned to France many times and the more I see and discover, the more enchanted I become by this beautiful, vibrant country. Our “Family and Friends” tour this past summer for the Women’s Soccer World Cup was no exception.
Since the games were set up in cities around the country, it gave me the perfect opportunity to plan a unique tour combining culture and history…plus, to be there for a historic and worldwide sporting event would be incredible.
And it was. The stadiums were jam packed for the US games and the team unity and spirit among all the players was amazing. Opponents congratulated winners and wished them good luck, and they embraced team supporters in the audience as well.
The USA women did not disappoint! They made our country proud both on and off the field. We felt honored to be there – cheering for the USA and supporting women around the world in their quest for equality.
Starting on the Normandy coast was the perfect beginning of our adventure – visiting Deauville, Trouville, Honfleur, Etretat, Le Havre, the D-Day landings and the American cemetery.
Our stop in the picturesque village of Giverny on the way back to “The City of Light” was the icing on the cake. Seeing Monet’s house and his paintings of the places we visited, and his wonderful flowering gardens is a special memory I’ll always treasure.
One day when we were in Paris, we caught up with our long-time friend, international real estate celebrity Adrian Leeds.
We sat down over a lovely glass of wine and it wasn’t long before we decided to collaborate on a very exciting lifestyle tour that will take place in October 2020. Barbara Perriello, Director Opportunity Travel
Here's where I'm going to interrupt Barb to tell you what an exciting conversation that was, because it led to creating "our first-ever tour highlighting the South of France!"
There’s one thing I want you to know...
If this conference and trip sounds interesting to you, I urge you to get your name on the list right away because space is very limited. Due to the rising interest in this area, I expect this event to sellout quickly.
— A Brief Overview —
A Fall Tour to the South of France Presented by Opportunity Travel & Adrian Leeds Group
Featuring French Property Expert Adrian Leeds
Nice – Provence – Languedoc October 18 - 24, 2020
Part I – Nice 100 participants maximum
Baie des Anges, Nice
Nice is the hub of the Riviera. It's a real city with a lot of life, a real heart and great inner-city transportation so you don't need a car. The Mediterranean is on its doorstep and the weather is mild and very sunny. All this makes it both a great place to live and a great place to visit. There is a very international community – the British, the Italians, the Russians and Americans make you feel very much at home among the locals. Language is less of an issue, thanks to all these non-French speakers and there is no shortage of activities for internationals in Nice or the nearby communities.
During our time together, we’ll introduce you to my “boots on the ground” contacts and make sure you get the answers to your questions. You’ll come away well informed about living, investing or retiring in France. And much, much more!
Day 1 – After arriving into Nice and checking in at our hotel, we’ll enjoy an evening ‘meet & greet’ reception.
Day 2 – We’ll spend today with me and my expert contacts at our hotel for a full day of information-packed presentations. We'll be talking about financial planning, getting a mortgage, learning French, visas and immigration issues, tax implications, currency exchange, the process of purchasing property and finding property, OF COURSE! This day will fill you to the brim with knowledge all while having lots of fun and meeting new people and resources. Your evening is free to wander through the city’s charming streets and sample the delicious Niçoise cuisine.
Day 3 – We have an exciting day in store! You’ll see the best of the French Riviera as we drive along the glittering coastline...from Nice to Villefranche-sur-Mer, via Monte Carlo, Cap Ferrat and all the way to Menton and back.
Day 4 – Afternoon Open House tour...you’ll have a chance to visit about 10 properties within walking distance of our hotel. You’re free for the morning to relax or explore on your own, and we’ll have a reception this evening with the group.
Part II – Provence and Languedoc 35 participants maximum
The town of Luberon
Pont du Gard
Day 5 - Following our departure from Nice, we’ll drive to Aix-en-Provence where we’ll meet with locals and realtors from the area and learn all about this classy city. You’ll find that history is part of everyday life here. Join the group for a cultural outing in the afternoon or simply take in the beautiful architecture and baroque splendor that surrounds you.
Day 6 – Today we’ll embark on a full-day tour of the Luberon, including the famous open-air market in Lourmarin, “one of the most beautiful villages in France.” We’ll explore the medieval hilltop towns of Roussillon, Bonnieux, Gordes, Menerbes and others in this picturesque Provence region – nestled in the middle of vineyards, olive groves and lavender fields.
Day 7 – En route to this day’s adventure, we’ll journey through history, from the Roman era to the Middle Ages. You’ll meet our local experts and you’ll have a chance to admire the historic charm of Uzès, the spectacular Roman monuments in Nîmes, and the 2,000-year old Pont du Gard, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Day 8 – Today we’ll go exploring, first to Isle-sur-la-Sorgue, an ancient mid-river town surrounded by a moat of flowing water, with an interesting history dating back to the 12th century… as well as a plethora of antique shops that have given it a worldwide reputation.
Next we’ll visit the quaint town of St. Remy-de-Provence, built from honey-colored stone and centered on a lovely, plane-shaded square lined by cafes. Known for the many artists and intellectuals who have resided here, this picturesque village is where you’ll find all the charm of a typical Provençal way of life.
And that’s just a glimpse of our schedule, literally “the tip of the iceberg.” As I mentioned, when we get further along with the arrangements, we’ll fill you in about pricing, hotels, meals, and of course all the details of our day-to-day itinerary.
So now, if you’re thinking about joining Barb and me in France...why not make this tour part of a greater adventure?
Barb would be delighted to help you plan a wonderful pre or post tour itinerary anywhere in France or Europe. After our meetings and explorations, believe me...you’ll be ready for a complete “immersion.”
A gentle reminder though...time is of the essence. If you’re imagining yourself in France, in good, fun-loving company, taking in some of the best this country has to offer...reserve your place today.
We’re still finalizing the arrangements but as we get closer to the tour date, we’ll have a lot more information to share. If this trip sounds interesting to you, we encourage you to get your name on the list right away because space is very limited and sellout risk is high.
Getting your name on the list is easy. Simply call +1 800-926-6575 or +1 561-243-6276, OR send Barb an email at [email protected] and we’ll be happy to answer your questions.

P.S. Have a watch...Timothyna Duncan of CNBC interviewed me for this report and gave me credit at the end. She did a great job of giving us a view on what makes Paris such an expensive city...but only in terms of real estate. Living here is a lot less expensive than living Stateside when you compare other things, like health care, transportation, education, insurance, property taxes, etc., etc.! That wasn't her focus, of course! ‘Why is Paris so Expensive?’. The video is at: youtube.com/.
