SPECIAL EDITION: Why the Left is So Right!

By now you know that politically speaking I’m a LEFT THINKER…although it’s the RIGHT BRAIN that creates the left thinking, funny as that might seem. And incongruously, I live on the RIGHT BANK, which is actually the NORTH SIDE of the Seine while the LEFT BANK is actually the SOUTH SIDE of the Seine.
Confusing, right? That’s because the river makes a turn as it hits Paris so that it flows from west to east rather than from north to south.

Lord! This is all semantics, anyway. In reality, the LEFT BANK or “La Rive Gauche”…is the chic of the chic.

It’s made up of districts 5, 6, 7, 13, 14, 15 — only six out of the 20 in Paris’ ‘escargot’ of ‘arrondissements.’ And while the 13th, 14th and 15th have much to offer, the chicest part of the Rive Gauche are the most central districts — the 5th, 6th and 7th. I’ve always thought of the 7th as the city’s most elegant district, home of the Eiffel Tower, the Champ de Mars and Les Invalides, not to mention rue Cler, a bustling market street the locals love. Some of the best shopping can be found on the edge of the 7th including the Left Bank’s first and foremost department store, Le Bon Marché and its Grande Epicerie — a gourmet’s idea of heaven.

Just next door is Saint-Germain-des-Prés, also one of the city’s most sought-after districts by North American visitors. Centered around the church of the former Abbey of Saint-Germain-des-Prés, it is home to a number of famous cafés, such as Les Deux Magots, Brasserie Lipp and Café de Flore all of which were at the center of the existentialist movement, where the likes of Jean-Paul Sartre and Simone de Beauvoir wrote for hours on end and hobnobbed with other literary giants.

Rues de Buci and Seine, a few steps away, are two of the district’s primary market and gathering places, with cafés, restaurants, shops and fresh food markets in abundance. Important museums are at every turn. Within walking distance is the Musée Maillol and the Musée d’Orsay. But let’s not forget important sights like the Jardin du Luxembourg and the Eglise Saint-Sulpice.

One may never need to leave the LEFT BANK, especially when surrounded by all those RIGHT BRAIN thinkers! So, why not ‘hang your beret’ in a Rive Gauche luxury apartment so that all that is chic is so right?

Parler Paris Apartments offers four luxury rental apartments on the LEFT BANK in the heart of the chic of the chic:

LE BAC MARCHE

Le Bac Marché is a sweet and cozy studio apartment that sits on well-known rue du Bac, in the heart of this chicer than chic Parisian neighborhood. The main room is equipped with a Murphy bed which descends from its hiding spot at night to provide a comfortable sleeping experience, and then goes neatly back into place to provide plenty of daytime living space. Also in this room is a dining table, a plush sofa with ample pillows and a beautiful, large cabinet with dishes and storage space. There is hanging space along an adjoining wall.

The Bac Marché lacks for nothing. Provided is a flat-screen television, telephone and high-speed Internet, all included in the price of the rental, plus calls to landlines in 100 countries are free of charge and to cell phone in the U.S. and Canada.

It has a separate well-equipped kitchen, with a modern two-burner stove, microwave, refrigerator/freezer and combination washer/dryer. All cookware and utensils are provided should you want to make your breakfast or any of your own meals — although you will be surrounded by great restaurants and cafés!

The bathroom has a full-sized shower stall and plenty of storage. There is no shortage of high-quality sheets and towels for a perfectly luxurious stay.

LE BUCI

Upon entering the building, it is immediately clear that this one is special. Completely restored and renovated, the common areas boast exposed stone walls and centuries old beams, beautifully illuminated with modern lighting. The anachronistic, modern glass elevator juxtaposes rather well with older parts of the building and waits to take you up to your Paris home.

The newly renovated apartment is every bit as stylish as its surroundings. From the entranceway, a hallway leads first to a bathroom with combined tub/rainfall shower, sink and toilet. Modern and elegant fixtures, a stone counter and a large mirror, make this room shine.

Continuing down the hallway, one comes to the main part of the apartment. To the immediate left is a large closet with hanging space. Just past this is the kitchen area with refrigerator, two burner ceramic stove, full sized oven, microwave and several other small appliances that will allow you to be self-sustaining for as long as you need to be. The apartment is well equipped with dishes and glassware as well as utensils and cooking implements.

Opposite the kitchen is the sleeping area, with its inviting king sized bed which can be converted to twins. The bed is adorned with luxury fabrics and ample pillows. Surrounding the head of the bed is built in cabinetry, which will mean that you will never have storage issues.

The entertainment center with flat-screen TV and DVD player can be enjoyed from the bed or from the comfortable sofa on the opposite wall from the bed. There are over one hundred channels available, several of them in English. Included is high speed wireless internet and unlimited free phone calls to over 50 countries, including cell phones in the US and Canada.

For your dining pleasure, there is a table for two in the corner of the apartment beside an antique mirrored divider. The plush Louis XV chairs will allow you to comfortably linger over meals. The apartment has two large windows through which the sun shines, and is equipped with blackout curtains to allow you a very dark sleeping environment if so desired.

LE BONAPARTE

Le Bonaparte is a large studio, well laid-out and suitable for short or extended stays. With three large windows, the apartment benefits from lots of natural light that highlights the tasteful décor.

The living/dining area has a large comfortable couch, a dining table for two, a television which receives 150 channels (including several in English) and a DVD player. There is also a video library with a selection of recent classic movies. The mirrors on the wall above the sofa add to the sense of spaciousness.

The full open kitchen includes a dishwasher, washing machine (drying rack provided), refrigerator, microwave/grill combination oven and stove top. All of the pots, pans, dishes and cutlery that you will need are provided.

Though a studio, the screen that partially separates the living/dining area from the bedroom area, give the apartment the feel of a one bedroom. The new double bed is flanked by two night tables and a welcoming armchair.

Beside the bedroom area, is the bathroom, which has a toilet, sink, vanity, medicine cabinet and a bath tub/shower combination. Storage in the apartment is abundant, with a triple closet providing both hanging and drawer space.

Included is high-speed wireless Internet and unlimited free phone calls to over 100 countries, including cell phones in the U.S. and Canada. As with all of our apartments, all linens and an ample supply of towels are provided.

LA MAISON D’ORSAY

Located near the Musée d’Orsay which houses the world’s greatest collection of impressionist masterpieces, La Maison d’Orsay is a lovely blend of modern conveniences and efficiency with old-world French charm and elegance. The apartment was completely renovated in 2010 by our designer, Martine di Mattéo, and no corner was left untouched. The neutral tones of the color scheme highlight the beautiful antiques and give a sense of calm and serenity.

The living room is comprised of two comfortable armchairs opposite a leather sofabed, which serves as a bed for an additional guest. The flat-screen TV and DVD player are hidden behind a sliding door in this room and there is free satellite access to watch over 100 channels.

The large and well-equipped kitchen has everything you would want, including a built-in combination oven/microwave, a dishwasher, two-burner ceramic stove, fridge and Nespresso coffee maker, not to mention a complete supply of cookware, dishes, cutlery and glassware. There are two dining options — either cozy seating at the marble bistro table with two chairs, or the stools that fit neatly under the extended kitchen counter.

The bedroom at the back of the apartment and facing a courtyard for ultimate quiet, has a comfortable queen-sized bed, elegant lighting, matching antique night tables and a French-style bureau. The mirrored closets in the alcove provide substantial hanging, shelf and storage space. For your musical pleasure, there is a Bose Sound Wave CD player/radio here in the bedroom.

The large and spacious bathroom is equipped with a sink and oversized vanity that offers ample counter and drawer space for all of your toiletries. There is a large tub/shower combination with hand-held and rainfall shower heads. The apartment’s washer and dryer are both also located here.

So, if you’re a RIGHT BRAIN kind of person who loves the LEFT BANK of the Seine and wants a great “pied-à-terre” in which to hang your beret, visit Parler Paris Apartments and check out Le Bac Marché, Le Buci, Le Bonaparte and La Maison d’Orsay…for your next perfect visit to the City of Light and LEFT THINKERS!
