What did Tom Hooper's mother tell him that helped him win the Oscar for best director? Who was the first choice for the role of King George VI, the part for which Colin Firth won the best actor Oscar? Why did Helena Bonham Carter delay production of the film for months? Meeting of April 12, 2011
Photos do not necessarily match descriptions.

About a dozen full and part-time Parisians from all over the world came to meet one another and take part in the day's program, as led by Kristin Shannon and Antonio Meza of PSI Communications (www.psicommunications.com). Once again they entertained and enlightened the group at Parler Paris Après Midi with a demonstration and role-playing look at “What is Your Body Language Business Card?”

We learned how to read someone's body language, by telling each other two short contrasting stories (in pairs), one where the communication with someone worked out poorly, the other where it worked out well, and then we 'mirrored' the body language of the other. Before long, even if we didn't know what the other person was saying (by speaking a different language or speaking an gibberish, it was obvious which story was positive and which was negative, just by reading his or her body language.

How was it different? In lots of way! Hand and body movements differed. Facial expressions differed. Even color of the skin differed. These are things we know instinctively and read in milliseconds, but often we don't step back and recognize the process from afar, which helps us improve our skills in learning more about someone more quickly and more succinctly.

PSI teaches these kinds of skills – and it's just one of the ways we can improve our communications and strengthen relationships, particularly in a cross-cultural environment. To learn more about their program and participate in their events, visit the Web site at www.psicommunications.com

When asked each of the attendees to tell us a little something about themselves, here's what they wrote:

Annalee Beverley: Back in town to stay in my lovely Saint-Germain-des-Prés apartment.
Äsa Ekvall: Assisting the speakers.
Carole Ozanian: Love being a Parisian.
Daryl Balestra and Angela: Best city on the planet!
Julie Seabury: I'm on vacation and loving everything.
Karina Jensen: Arrived in 2008 pursuing PhD in conversation and cross-cultural collaboration. Looking forward to managing teaching/training, research and consulting activities on the same topic!
Luz Marino Diaz: Came to learn French (14 years ago), now married, two daughters and currently looking forward to working.
Lynda Sydney: Adrian Leeds Group Marketing Director, Freelance Copywriter, and author of CarChick.ca, a driving blog for women.
Patricia Laplante Collins: Still hosting Paris Soirées every Sunday night. Be sure to visit www.parissoirees.com.
Paula Victoria: Trying to learn French.
Tom Houlihan: Still hustling to become a Techie Supreme of Paris! Looking for apt rental starting May 1.
Valerie Grauer: Nuskin Distributor – seeking entrepreneurial people to become distributors.
Wendy “Lash Queen” Newman: In love with Paris, enjoying the good life here. Growing old gracefully in the City of Love. Who wants some eyelash extensions? Très glam!
Yaël Menasse-Friedberg: I came to Paris to study French, then business administration at the university. Then started working as a credit analyst, married a French guy.

Next on the agenda on May 10th is Judith Merians, an entertainment attorney and business executive for the Hollywood Studios and independent production companies for 27 years. She's going to be discussing "The King's Speech" – The story behind the the top film of 2010. Be sure to mark your calendar to be there.
