Burgundy
is renowned for its culinary tradition, its celebrated chardonnay
and pinot noire wines, and its gorgeous Romanesque churches. However,
there are parts of this large region of forests, chateaus, and
canals that are unfamiliar even to many of the French themselves.
Journey with Jeffrey Greene, author of French Spirits and its
sequel The Golden-Bristled Boar: Last Ferocious Beast of the Forest,
on an inside view of Burgundy. |

"Does Paris Give You Permission to Have Pleasure?" Join Victoria, The Pleasure Coach for a liberating view on how you can most benefit from that sly and encouraging nod the city of Paris offers you --the nod that says: go ahead, live your life with sexual pleasure. Victoria will share the beats of her own transformation (no, not X-rated!) and her observations on the social and cultural factors that encouraged a life-changing journey...so much so, she left her career in the children's television business to create her pleasure coaching service. Judith Merians, an entertainment attorney and business executive for the Hollywood Studios and independent production companies for 27 years, generously spoke at Après Midi about the story behind the the top film of 2010, "The King's Speech." She took us from beginng to end to answer these questions: How did an envelope slipped through Geoffrey Rush's mail slot start this project rolling? Why did screenwriter David Seidler wait 28 years to write his Oscar winning script? What did Tom Hooper's mother tell him that helped him win the Oscar for best director? Who was the first choice for the role of King George VI, the part for which Colin Firth won the best actor Oscar? Why did Helena Bonham Carter delay production of the film for months? What did producer Harvey Weinstein do to score four Oscars for this film? What did the Queen Mother have to do with all of this?
The story behind the little film that beat all the big guys was absolutely fascinating and held us all captive for a good 45 minutes! Thank you, Judith!
Judith will also be speaking at the American Library in Paris:
