Le Matisse is an artistry-designed newly renovated and decorated one-bedroom luxurious apartment that will put you in happy, high spirits much like a Matisse painting – full of color and life. Inspired by Henri Matisse’s works and life in Nice, the primary colors are sure to raise your mood and you will marvel at the beautiful artistic work of Mosaïste Véronique Husson throughout the bath and kitchen plus in the bedroom and of special note, the dining room table.
The apartment is on the third floor of a “bourgeois” building with a wide white marble staircase that is an easy and pleasant ascent. Thanks to its location opposite a low building and facing the sea, sky and light pour in the three large windows all day long.
When you first enter (the door on the right in the entry), you will no doubt be struck by the clever use of an atelier-style glass wall that allows you to see through to the bedroom, but which can be privatized by its louvre blinds. The windowed partition allows one to benefit from the floor-to-ceiling windows, one of which leads to a balcony – a perfect spot from which to have your morning coffee or afternoon repose – perfect at the bright green table with four folding chairs.
To your immediate left is a tall coat closet in which there is a bright red Rolser 6-wheel marketing cart and where you can house your suitcases. Just ahead is a full kitchen equipped with a multi-cook oven, refrigerator, two-burner stove, washer/dryer, espresso maker and toaster. There is ample cabinetry and it’s completely equipped for even the most serious of chefs and dinner party hosts. The counter and backsplash is Véronique's glistening artistry hand-laid tile.
To the right are two large closets – one for utilities and the other a large linen closet filled with more towels than you will know what to do with. In it you will also find equipment for your use including a folding stool, the lounge chairs, beach mats and parasol. Adjacent to the linen closet is my favorite room -- the spacious and luxurious bathroom of mosaic tile also designed and hand-laid by our Mosaïste. For long soaks (at least one per day) or an invigorating shower, you will find a large oval-shaped tub with internal seat, equipped with a large shower head (choose from five different jets!) and iridescent white curtain. The heated towel rack keeps your towels warm and fluffy. The bathroom is equipped with a hair dryer (with diffuser), large brightly-lit mirror, magnifying make-up mirror, and plenty of space for all your toiletries on the shelves or in the medicine cabinet.
Just beyond is the living room with a big wicker armchair and playful tangerine-colored suede sofa bed that converts to twins or a queen-size bed for your extra guests. They are both filled with Matissien-style cushions for extra comfort. Opposite the sofa and near the balcony is dining room for four on another of Véronique's handywork -- a hand-laid mosaic tile table and four wooden dining chairs with bright red cushions.
On the wall above the hutch next to the dining table is a large flat-screen TV that swings out and swivels with viewing of hundreds of channels along with a complete home radio/video system that allows you to play DVDs, CDs and your iPod. On the cabinet below the TV you will find one of the three cordless phones with an answering machine that allows you to phone more than 100 countries free of charge. WiFi Internet access is available throughout the apartment.
In the cabinet below is where you will find an assortment of DVDs, books, guidebooks and maps for Nice and the entire region for your use.
On the wall between the windows is a fold-down secretary and work-station where you can plug in your computer or other device and work (or play!) comfortably. Under the desk is cabinetry where you can store all your equipment or games or whatever your heat desires. The desk is further equipped with a variety of gadgets any office space needs -- so no need to bring along your tape, scissors, stapler, etc. It's all here.
Just past the sofa is the entry to the bedroom that has a mirrored back wall giving a spirit of tremendous space and light. It is furnished with a queen-size bed that converts to twins, night stands with mosaic hand-tiled tops, table lamps that dim and can be controlled from the bed or from the entry, a large mirrored closet and a three-drawer dresser with mirror framed in hand-laid tile. Here you can fully unpack and make yourself totally at home.
In addition, the bedroom has its own flat-screen TV with DVD player that swings and swivels for easy viewing – with just as many channels as the living room TV, and fully independent so everyone has a choice!
The apartment is both heated and air-conditioned so you will always be able to control the interior climate to your perfection. The windows are double-paned so that outside noise can be completely shut out for total calm and quiet. Or fully opened to take in the beautiful Niçois climate.
Le Matisse is also equipped with beach towels for your use on the Riviera. The balcony is equipped with a small table and four folding chairs…from which you may never want to leave!
The apartment adjacent to Le Matisse on the same floor is a luxury two-bedroom/two-bath apartment owned by another American family named La Côte de Paradis. It can be rented separately or in tandem with Le Matisse. Please be sure to ask us for more information.
The Carré d’Or
The Carré d'Or (Golden Square) area is a centrally located vibrant, cosmopolitan district characterized by bourgeois buildings, chic cafés, restaurants and designer shops. WE LOVED NICE! The architecture, the vegetation, the new park, the sea, the food. Enjoyed it all! We appreciated having such a cozy place to call home. It’s great to be so close to the sea and so much activity. We loved our stay and would come back again. Thanks to Adrian Leeds and Parler Nice Apartments for providing so many details…life is so easy in her apartments.

Where do we start…this was a perfect place to stay. There was a guitar player at night that started around 8 p.m. who was fabulous. We really enjoyed him. Many great places to visit. We rented bikes and rode all over. Great seafood restaurant called “Les Pecheurs.” Great, great food. Best we have had in France, and we were in Paris seven days. Go to the vegetable/fruit/flower market in the Old Town. Antiques there on Monday, no fruits/flowers/veggies. The bus/train is a nice way to get around. Loved the flat. After I got to know the washer/dryer, life was great. Loved the espresso machine. Found the top of it keeps your milk warm after frothing. Balcony…much relaxation. Had a wonderful time -- jealous we can’t keep the place longer. Jusqu’à la prochaine fois. Au revoir, I DON’T WANT TO GO!

The Matisse is most comforatable and very special..a home away form home. We're heading back to Calgary Alberta, Canada with fond memories and experiences of Nice and the surrounding area. This place is adorable! The service has been very, very accommodating. I loved having breakfast on the balcony and coming back to the nice cold apartment every day. This place has such a happy, sunny, and colorful vibe. I wish I could stay here forever. The location has been perfect for all we wanted to do: the beach was right there, along with restaurants, markets and bars! We could not have asked for more. Thank you so much!
Sim, Melanie and Emily L.
We've had a wonderful stay at Le Matisse. The apartment provides everything you could possibly need. The balcony was a treat -- what a way to start each day with breakfast in the sun. WWe especially liked the espresso maker (we may need to buy one when we return home). I've read Parler Paris for so long and followed with interest the creation of Le Matisse -- it was everything expected and more. Great restaurants and wonderful strolls through the area. We even took in the flea market. Lovely museum and parks. Nice has been a joy! Thanks for sharing your piece of the Riviera!!
Dave & Lynne L., Hamilton, Ontario Canada
We really enjoyed this wonderful retreat from the noise and heat of the city. It's been our favorite accommodations in our travel to Barcelona, Rome, Amsterdam and Scheggino. We really appreciated all the comforts of home -- plus the espresso maker! We want to get one now when we return home. Thanks again for providing us with a clean and comfortable apartment. The terrace was great for watching the world go by, too.

The apartment did exceed my expectations for comfort convenience, location and amenities. Thank you very much for making the effort to provide such a great service. We loved this apartment and it made our stay in Nice perfect. It had everything in it that we needed, was immaculate and beautifully decorated. I would stay in another Adrian Leeds property without hesitation and would recommend this apartment to all of my friends.
Katherine M., Alamo, CA.
We really enjoyed our stay in Le Matisse. The apartment looks even better than in the photos. It was very spacious and comfortable and everything we needed was included. Most evenings we spent an hour or two sitting on the balcony watching the world go by and listening to the musicians entertaining the tourists below. We will definitely book this apartment again when we return to Nice.
This apartment was a bit of "heavenly bliss" on Rue Massena! The incredible decor and colors of the apartment made us feel as if we were living in a Matisse painting! Every detail was so well thought of and we can't wait to return. In a way would prefer to keep this as our own little secret in Nice!
Kristina S., Helsinki Finland
I feel so privileged to be the first to use Le Matisse! Merci for the great pleasure of staying here for one week.I found such inspiration for starting my novel in this wonderful apartment and the area. It's renovated to perfection, and the location couldn't be better. It's walking distance to Old Town, the Promenade des Anglais, restaurants, stores, groceries, etc...location, location, location! I'm really loving the apartment and have decided to move in...it's perfect!! You'll have to call the gendarmes on Saturday to evict me....oh wait, I have a husband and furry kids that need me at home !! OK...I'll vacate quietly!! Seriously, I LOVE it!
Kathy E., Bedford, TX
We had a wonderful time in your beautiful apartment. Thanks so much for all your hospitality.

A little piece of heaven on rue Massena! An amazing apartment--beautiful design and decor. The colors of the apartment are like out of a Matisse painting! We have a wonderful stay here and will surely return! Thank you Adrian! (and Vivian!)

A wonderful retreat for relaxation and rejuvenation in the beautiful city of Nice. Excellent location, close to the many shops and easy walking distance to Vieux Nice and the baeach. Hope to return one day for a longer stay. The decor makes the apartment all the more inviting too.
Megan & Jessica, USA
We loved every minute of our stay at this fabulous, charming apartment! Le Matisse was perfectly located--close to the best shopping, restaurants, promenade walks, and public transportation--and delivered an amazing vacation for our mother/daughter stay. We recommend a wine and cheese night on the terrace, trip along the coast to Monaco, and then screening of Grace Kelly in To Catch a Thief (located under the DVD player.) This will be our destination on our next trip back to Nice. Loved every minute!
Millie W. & Kathryn S.
There is a saying that goes something like: If you don't want to leave a location, it means you had a good time. We were not ready to leave this lovely flat or pretty Nice. We had a delightful time! From the moment we entered the door, we felt the physical beauty of Le Matisse and also the emotional warmth of a place well loved. We thoroughly enjoyed the comfortable furnishings, the conveniences offered in the flat and the ideal location. The balcony was a great gift for coffee and breakfast as well as wine and cheese in the evening. The decor speaks of light, joy and liveliness of Henri Matisse but also of you, Adrian. Thank you for making this opportunity available to us.
Martha and Jerry W. Memphis, TN
This trip was great fun. We enjoyed everything from the authentic cuisine to wonderful shopping and sightseeing. It is truly a great location. Thank you Adrian and Vivian. We will be back!
Julia, Minnesota USA
Fantastic! The region, the people, the sites. The flat itself is perfect--location, quality, ease of dealing with the Owner--Vivian is a pleasure to work with. We hated to leave and hope to return soon. Viva la France
Denis and Tracy B., Chicago, IL
We drove down from Paris. The drive was a little longer than we anticipated. We arrived quite late, but Vivian was kind enough to meet us at the apartment at 11 p.m. The apartment is well laid out so we were all quite comfortable. The trundle bed was perfect for grandma. The neighborhood is amazing, needless to say, and we didn't have to drive around at all to get everything we needed. Thank you for a great place to stay. We will recommend this apartment to friends.
Alycia S., San Francisco, CA
A most wonderful apartment in a great location in Nice. The owner has thought of everything possible that could be needed in the apartment. For a small space, it is so well planned and amazingly well stocked. My sisters and I thoroughly enjoyed our time here in this beautiful haven called Le Matisse. Thanks again to Vivian, Jezmin and Adrian for being such a considerate and well organized agency.
