Frédéric Latty – Teaching Supervisor at the Institut de Français
Frédéric is the Teaching Supervisor at the Institut de Français in Villefranche, but you could also describe him as a product of the very cross-cultural European spirit we celebrate here. Born and raised on the French Riviera to a German mother and an Antibois father, he’s spent his life navigating the beautiful space between languages.
His academic journey took him from the University of Nice to Germany, and eventually to Oxford, where he completed his Master’s in Linguistics. In 1990, Frédéric returned home and immediately joined the Institut de français in Villefranche as a teacher. After almost a decade in the classroom and a few years working closely with our founders, Madeleine and Jean Colbert, as Executive Assistant, he stepped into the role of Teaching Supervisor in 2007. He’s had the honor of leading our pedagogical mission ever since.
Frédéric is a firm believer that learning a language isn’t just about grammar; it’s about finding a new way to see the world. He’s excited to share his insights with our audience. Outside of the Institut, he remains a true local at heart—always down to chat about the unique history of the Riviera or the nuances of Anglo-German-French linguistics!”
