Après-Midi Recap
Janet Hulstrand, Paris – July 2023
I met Janet when she and her husband decided to buy a chalet in the small Champagne town of Essoyes, were Renoir lived and painted. I assisted them in finding a mortgage and making the purchase and we’ve been friends ever since.
Janet is a freelance writer, editor, writing coach and teacher who divides her time between France and the US. She is the author of Demystifying the French: How to Love Them, and Make Them Love You and Moving On: A Practical Guide to Downsizing the Family Home.
She writes frequently for Bonjour Paris, France Today, and France Revisited, as well as for her blog, Writing from the Heart, Reading for the Road; and she teaches online classes for Politics and Prose Bookstore in Washington, DC.
In her recently published literary memoir, A Long Way from Iowa: From the Heartland to the Heart of France she tells the story of how a love of reading, writing, and travel was passed down to her by her mother and grandmother—and fueled the direction of her own dreams. It’s a beautiful story and her writing is smooth as silk.
Janet told us about the winding path that led her from a childhood in Minnesota to adventures in New York, Washington, Paris—and ultimately to a little village in the Champagne region of France.
