For Sale: The Perfect Pied-à-Terre on rue de Poitou

The living room and kitchen in La Fleur de Poitou, apartment for sale in Paris

We call it “La Fleur de Poitou”—a one-bedroom apartment in the heart of the Haute Marais, 3rd Arrondissement…for sale.

Adrian Leeds and guests on an episode of House Hunters International in ParisFeatured on HGTV’s House Hunters International, “A Taste For Paris,” this is 33.23 square meters (357 square feet) of pure and royal heaven in a centuries-old building (dating back to about 1850) in one of Paris’ oldest and certainly hippest neighborhoods. La Fleur de Poitou is a one-bedroom in impeccable condition, sold fully furnished and turn-key ready, south-facing for maximum light from big windows overlooking a quiet Marais street that will become pedestrian in the near future. On the third floor, up a well-preserved original wooden staircase, it spirals up easily and effortlessly. Each of the five floors in the building houses one apartment—so that makes for a small, but very friendly and cohesive homeowner association.

The apartment underwent complete renovation and decoration by our favorite designer, Martine di Mattéo, in 2011, including the bathroom and kitchen with hand laid mosaic tiles by Mosaïste Véronique Husson. The fully equipped kitchen is open to the living room and dining room. The bedroom is outfitted with a queen-sized bed (or converts to twins) and a custom built-in closet.

The bathroom features a beautiful mosaic tiled shower and sink. With the apartment comes a storage closet just outside the door near the landing.

The living room and bedroom are both south-facing, both with large windows on the street side. A window from the kitchen overlooking a small courtyard provides extra light and, more importantly, cross ventilation to keep the apartment cool during the warmest of days.

You will LOVE the neighborhood as much as we do—the “Haute Marais”—that has seen some of the most significant price increases of any Paris arrondissement in recent years because of its vibrant lifestyle and rarity of offers. It is the mecca for fashionistas, but it’s also a neighborhood boasting of many attractions, including the the Musée PIcasso, the Musée Carnavalet, and lesser-known hideaways such as the Square George Cain, the gardens of the Archives Nationales, and the Jardin Anne Frank. It’s one of Paris’ most historic areas, with remnants left from the 12th-century medieval fortress built by the Knights Templars just at the Square du Temple and the Mairie of the Paris Centre that governs districts one through four.

In today’s world, the neighborhood is hip and hoppin’ anchored by the Marché des Enfants Rouges, the city’s oldest covered market that dates back to 1615. You will find countless gourmet shops and hip cafés along rue de Bretagne such as the popular Café Charlot; cocktail bars such as Le Mary Celeste; art galleries as important as Emmanuel Perrotin and Thaddaeus Ropac; fashionable boutiques and concept stores such as Merci and Isabel Marant, plus an endless amount of entertainment. The district is well serviced by Métro and buses, and is in close proximity to Place de la République in which one can catch up to five different Métro lines.

Rue de Poitou is a one-lane, one-way street currently being reconfigured in favor of pedestrians and cyclists. It is one of the district’s quietest streets given that the shop-fronts are fashion boutiques rather than cafés and bars.

ADDITIONAL DETAILS ABOUT LA FLEUR DE POITOU

A suede three-person pull-out sofabed sits against a purple wall, flanked by two end tables and their lamps. An original painting by local Paris artist, Pascal Amblard, hangs above the sofa. All of the apartment’s windows have been dressed with draperies hand-made from sumptuous fabrics.

Opposite the sofa are bookshelves and a nook featuring a TV & DVD player.

From the living room one passes into the bedroom with its queen-size bed that can be made up as twins. The bed is surrounded by custom-built closets. High quality linens and towels are provided—we weren’t joking about it being move-in ready!

The open kitchen backsplash is a masterpiece of hand-laid tile, created by Mosaïste Véronique Husson. It is well and fully equipped with a full-sized oven, two burner stove, microwave, dishwasher, refrigerator, washer/dryer combination, coffee maker, electric kettle and toaster. Overhead cupboards, some with glass doors, and a separate chest of drawers, contain a complete set of dishes, utensils, cooking implements, pots and pans.

Finally, the bathroom is yet another masterpiece of mosaic tile. The sink and vanity have all been beautifully hand-tiled, all with the flower pattern, making this apartment worthy to be called La Fleur de Poitou.

Love the size and layout but the purple is overwhelming…..would not buy for that reason. The color theme is woven
thru out the apt. so it is not just a matter of painting a wall. It is too “loud”….prefer white walls with color accents
    throughout the rooms. Lacks sophistication.

The paint can be easily changed!

Cute apt rue de Poitou, nice price; however, it looks like the immediate area’s street level businesses have been decimated, obviously as a result of the Covid lockdowns. What’s with all the graffiti? We were thinking of visiting this coming September but with viral mutations on the rise, new lockdowns in nearby countries, Macron threatening to lockdown again if necessary, mask mandates, Covid passports, we’ve decided to stay put.
Not to worry. Paris will rise again; however, when it does, the worldwide real estate bubble will have collapsed. Just saying.

This is very cute apartment! Not sure what you mean about the businesses being decimated – if you are on Google Streetview these photos are often taken very early in the morning when things are closed. The apartment is in an excellent and lively neighborhood.
