An Art-Lover’S Paradise

No one can deny that Paris is an art-lover’s paradise. There are enough museums, art galleries, public displays of art and art fairs to to fulfill any artomaniac’s strongest urges.

When I was a tourist, I made it a point to visit something art related at least once per day. Now, I make it a point to see an exhibit a week — and still, never get to see them all.

Today, the annual contemporary art fair — FIAC (Foire Internationale d’Art Contemporain) — opens running through Monday, October 13th at the Paris Expo, Porte de Versailles, Hall 4, now celebrating it’s 30th year. This year’s show is comprised of 174 international galleries from 22 countries presenting contemporary art, in particular, personal shows, specific installations and new works. For complete information, visit the site

If 174 galleries isn’t enough for you, then don’t miss some of the greatest exhibitions on right now…Post-Impressionists Vuillard and Gauguin are both at the Grand Palais.

“Edouard Vuillard and Paul Gauguin were both Parisian artists who developed their styles by doing something new with the innovations of the older Impressionists. If you’ve ever wondered how we got from Monet to Matisse in just 30 short years, these exhibitions will give you a chance to understand those turn-of-the-century transitions.” Paris Muse

Paris Muse offers private 90-minute tours of both “Vuillard” and “Gauguin-Tahiti” for 80 euros per person, which includes the price of admission. For more information or to book your tour

For Italian Renaissance flavor, visit “The Restlessness of Grace” — an exhibition on Sandro Boticelli in conjunction with the Special Bureau for the Florence Museum Group, the Special Bureau for the Rome Museum Group, and the Musée du Luxembourg which opened just this week and runs until February 1, 2004 at the Musée du Luxembourg.

And if you want to take home an original work by an artist living in Paris, have a portrait painted of yourself or your loved ones by Kathy Burke or a watercolor of your favorite scene of Paris by Lisa Rothstein (cover artist of Paris Confidential).
