Focused on Paris Photography

Tis the week that all of Paris is focused on photography. The city is awash with photographers, collectors and dealers, not to mention great images. If you like looking through a camera lens or your own eye lens to take in the beauty of great photography, this is the time of year to do it.

Salon de la Photo just ended this past weekend for photographers who want to peruse the latest products by international brands.

The Salon de la Photo showcased the very latest products by internationally renowned brands. Taking place over five days, it provided a lively forum for ideas, skills and interests and featured an outstanding program of events, presentations, workshops and discussions; the fair attracted all the key market leaders, and also had a popular sales area and bookshop

Last Wednesday evening, the International Fine Art Photography Awards honored the winners of the 2013 Grand Prix de la Découverte at the Mona Bismarck American Center with a special cocktail party. The awards were presented during a ceremony the next day at the Salon de la Photo where the winners’ works were exhibited.

“Yousuf Karsh: Icons of the Twentieth Century” is on display at the Mona Bismarck American Center (till January 26, 2014) making it a perfect backdrop to the awards. (Karsh’s iconic portraits are overwhelmingly stunning and rich — don’t miss this show!)

As it turns out, my photography neighbor, Gérard Musy,  just closed his vintage show, “Back to Backstage,” last night at the Hôtel Scribe Paris — fashion photos from the ’80s.

The annual Paris Photo Fair opens tomorrow (on through Sunday, November 17th) — the largest of its kind in the world offering 135 international art galleries and 28 publishers. Stop by my old L.A. friend’s gallery —
Gallery Luisotti at Stand: D25 — and tell Theresa Luisotti I sent you. And be sure to take a look at the works of another photographer neighbor of mine, Marion Gronier, winner of the 2012 BMW Residency awards, whose images,  “Les Glorieux,” are on special display at the fair. (See parisphoto.com/paris/ for more information.)

LensCulture.com is a partner for the ninth year with Paris Photo and will present a large selection of preview picks.

Last night, Lens Culture sponsored its annual FotoFest Paris — an International Portfolio Review and Meeting Place® for Photographers where more than 200 photographers and reviewers came from 37 countries to participate. It was open to the public free.

More to see if this isn’t enough (!) are the Erwin Blumenfeld photographs, designs and photomontages at the Jeu de Paume on till January 26th.

And no, there is never enough photo eye candy for this focused lover of the still image!

A la prochaine…
