Escape to France Webinar

I’ve watched more CNN in the last six days than perhaps in several years. I found the counting of the votes for Joe Biden or Donald Trump fascinating as the mail-in ballots, particularly in the urban areas, changed the outcome of the election in such a drastic way. (Mine was one of them.) It puzzled me that the news network could afford to devote itself 100 percent, 24 hours a day, every day for five days until a winner was declared. It was wondrous that the newscasters were tirelessly there, obviously living off of coffee and whatever kept them alive, alert and awake, while still maintaining some sort of sanity. All in all, I got completely hooked on the process, and then relieved when we could finally, days later, imagine the inevitable outcome.

When CNN declared the winner of the presidential race, just one hour before our Escape to France Zoominar was to begin on Saturday evening, I applauded loudly while on my own in confinement, but am sure it fell on deaf ears. On the streets of Paris, there were no celebrations erupting like in cities across the U.S. I have to admit, it felt very lonely as I wanted to share my joy with so many people, impossible to do under the circumstances. I broke into tears, as did Van Jones on CNN who got so choked up he could barely speak, which just made it worse for me. Of course, the text messages, emails, Facebook messages and phone calls were flying in from all sides, but with the Zoominar about to begin, I had no choice but to try to tune them out.

The Escape to France—It’s Easier than You Think Zoominar had a large number of last minute registrations, beating all of our expectations. It started off on the right foot, having just learned the news that Joe Biden and Kamala Harris had won the race making everyone smiling wildly with glee. As the participants popped in on the screen, it was obvious by the happy faces that there was a huge sigh of relief, as if we had just woken up from a nightmare. Suddenly our futures seemed so much brighter.

Escape to Franc Webinar 2020A few moments into the presentation, Patty Sadauskas, our co-host, stopped the meeting to inform me that because we hadn’t anticipated the large turnout, no more than 100 participants could link in. Oops! Another almost 100 attendees were locked out. With no way to stop the meeting and correct the problem, we kept going, vowing to have the recording for everyone to see regardless if they were on the Zoominar or not.

When we signed off, I watched the video register on my computer, but much faster than normal, only to realize when it was done that only three seconds, rather than 1.5 hours, had been recorded. Ugh. Double oops! Who’s mistake was that? We have no clue!

We made some quick decisions to remedy the problem, not only for those on the Zoominar who won’t benefit from the recording, but all those who were locked out…let’s just do it again and do it even better!

So, if you didn’t register the first time, here’s your chance to participate. We will redo the entire event this coming Saturday, November 14th at the same time—10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Pacific/1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Eastern/7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. France. We will make sure, too, that the recording will be happening as it should!

For those of you who hadn’t registered and would like to, this Zoominar is a prelude to the upcoming Living and Investing in France Nice-Provence-Occitanie Conference and Tour, in September of 2021.

Hosted by Opportunity Travel and the Adrian Leeds Group, the cost is just $29 for the Zoominar and you’ll get a bonus discount of $200 OFF the 2021 conference and/or tour!

Rosemary Flannery at work in her studio in ParisP.S. Many thanks to Rosemary Flannery for this beautiful portrait—my signature photo—drawn by hand, taken from the original photo.

Rosemary is an American artist living in Paris who has always loved the study of faces and personalities, and expressing them. She studied at the Ateliers du Carrousel du Louvre, and took classes in morphology and perspective at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts. At the Atelier St Luc, Rosemary learned masters’ techniques in painting and in drawing, using sanguine, pierre noire and pastel, which continue to inspire her work. Represented by the Galerie des Saints-Pères in Paris for portraiture from 2000 until its closing in 2006, Rosemary is the titular portrait artist for the Bâtonniers du Barreau du Val de Marne—a French bar association—for the past twenty years. She has also had the pleasure of creating portraits for members of the American Embassy in Paris. Rosemary’s work includes landscapes and still life. She has exhibited in Paris, Burgundy, Ireland and Tunisia. She is a member of the Maison des Artistes, a juried French artists’ union.

Angels in Paris by Rosemary FlanneryIn Paris, Rosemary also worked as a tour guide, specializing in French architecture and history. This passion led to the creation of her book, Angels of Paris: an Architectural Tour of the History of Paris published by The Little Bookroom, 2012; the French version, Les Anges de Paris, was released in 2015 by Editions Guy Trédaniel.

Rosemary is ready to create portraits as the perfect holiday gift for your loved ones. Pose for her or send her a photo. Please feel free to contact her, and be sure you tell her Adrian sent you.

    Hi Adrian,
Thanks for keeping us informed. I too felt a huge weight lifted after the election, even while confined in Cannes… there are worse places to be….for sure…have you written or can you do a write up about inheritance laws for US expats who own property in France? We just finalized filing our will with our French notaries, who informed us that because of the special relationship between France and US, we can specify that we want all our assets both in US and France to fall under US inheritance laws only. Thanks and stay safe..
