Cara Black is back with her 24^th novel–Hugette. She’s spoken at Après-Midi many times–every time she publishes a new book! I checked my own library and found only three of them missing…but not for long. I’d like the collection to be complete, and it will be.

I first met Cara when she generously spoke at our Living and Investing in France conference in San Francisco in March of 2004! At that time, she had only six under her belt, starting with Murder in the Marais. Once you start, it’s easy to get hooked on her Aimee Leduc detective series and now that she’d murdered someone in all 20 Paris arrondissements + an extra (21 in that series), her fast-paced stand-alone thrillers are even better.

Her love of all things French was kindled by the French-speaking nuns at her Catholic high school, where Cara first encountered French literature and went crazy for the work of Prix Goncourt winner Romain Gary. Her junior year in high school, she wrote him a fan letter—which he answered, and which inspired her to make her first trip to Paris, where her idol took her out for coffee and a cigar. Since then, she has been to Paris many, many times. On each visit she entrenches herself in a different part of the city, learning its secret history.
