Après-Midi Recap
Mary Duncan, Paris – July 2026
Mary Duncan is the coordinator of the Paris Writers Group, which she created in June 2008. PWG meets monthly to discuss issues related to the business aspects of writing and publishing.
I joke that I had to beg her to let me be a member, because she thought I was “too commercial.” Fortunately, she finally agreed and I’ve been a loyal member ever since and really appreciated all Mary has done to aid the literary community in Paris.
Mary lives in Paris, France and La Jolla, California. Her memoir, Henry Miller is Under My Bed: People and Places on the Way to Paris, has been praised by Lawrence Ferlinghetti, Hugh Hefner, San Diego Magazine and the Mail on Sunday.
This is no ordinary memoir. Her life story illustrates what a strong and intelligent woman Mary is, and how that took her to places most people never dream of being…including the Playboy Mansion sitting alongside Hugh Hefner and many of his most illustrious guests.
A native of San Diego, California, she taught at San Diego State University for twenty-five years. Her academic subjects ranged from terrorism and the Irish Republican Army to leisure and work in contemporary society. As a professor, she published numerous articles on these subjects and has been interviewed on CNN, NBC, CBS and ABC. She has also lectured at the Smithsonian Institution and Oxford University.
In spite of the heat, our crowd at Après-Midi loved every minute. Be sure to watch the video on our YouTube channel.
