Après-Midi Recap
Susan Herrmann Loomis, Paris – May 2025
There wasn’t an inch between attendees…more than 70 people showed up to hear Susan Herrmann Loomis speak about her life as a chef, teacher, cookbook author and newcomer to Paris! She spent many years in her 12th-century Normandy house before moving to Paris recently and discovering what the city has to offer.
As an internationally-recognized expert on food and an award-winning journalist/author, Susan takes a unique approach to her craft by combining training in journalism with a love for food and the people who produce it. It all started with cooking school in Paris, then a year co-researching and authoring THE FOOD LOVER’S GUIDE TO PARIS, with Patricia Wells. They walked the streets of this famed city tasting, sipping, getting up at all hours to visit bakers and cheese makers, restaurateurs and markets. Susan went on to do extensive travel throughout the United States, France, Italy, the Middle East and parts of Asia as she researched books, always keeping in mind the people behind the food. What captivates her, aside from flavor and excellence, are the people who grow and then fashion our food into gorgeous tastes. She is passionate about tradition, and all of her work has led her to investigate, share, then write about food and agricultural traditions throughout the world, focusing mostly on France, where she lives.
Susan is an award-winning author of fourteen books both food and literary, the most recent of which is PLAT DU JOUR (Countryman, 2018).
