A Non-Stop Stop in Nice
This past week in Nice has been so non-stop busy with activity that I didn’t get to see the sea until four days after arrival! Even living just about a block away doesn’t always make it easy to find time to pay my respects to the beautiful aqua blue Mediterranean.
NICE (NAIS) GUEST STAYS IN NICE (NEES)
But, I did…to visit our Guest Stay property that is directly on the Promenade des Anglais and see it’s new glass sliding doors. Wow! UV-tinted and with a special bug screen, it’s reflective on the seaside so that you could be stark naked inside and no one would see you! The extra security and comfort is amazing.

We created this apartment, and another other in central Nice, specifically for our clients and readers to have a comfortable stay in Nice while visiting to find property for themselves. Both are studio apartments, but this one is larger than the other and has a private garden right on the sea. The smaller one is situated steps from Place Masséna overlooking an enormous fuchsia bougainvillea, so the location is tough to beat. It couldn’t be more pleasant! To learn more and to secure your guest stay—no less than one week—visit our website.
WHERE TO LIVE IN FRANCE: PARIS? NICE? THE REST OF FRANCE?
The sea is so beautiful, it’s impossible to resist. Thank goodness for the iconic Chaises Bleues that line the Promenade and make life along the sea so inviting. Daniel Tostado, our preferred immigration attorney, interviewed me not long ago in both Paris and Nice about “Where to Live in France.” The two top spots, in my opinion, remain Paris and Nice, even though we can offer our services anywhere in France. His quick Instagram post does a good job of telling you why! View the Reel, and if you like, share it with your friends asking the same question!

By popular request, we’re making our recent one-hour webinar, Get to Know the Rest of France with Jennifer Parrette and me, available to everyone, indefinitely. Jennifer is our new Regional Division Manager to offer advice and services to everyone wanting to live outside of Paris or Nice (and their environs). It was designed to help you understand the regions and towns best suited to expats, and give you a clearer picture of what to expect—whether you are looking to live in a Provençal village or a vibrant mid-sized city like Toulouse.

THE FUTURE OF AMERICAN POLITICS
Billy Linville, Public Affairs and Strategic Communications guru, spoke Thursday at Nice’s Après-Midi about “The Future of American Politics and What it Means for Expats Living in France.”
Our community was so fascinated by Billy’s topic that they arrived as early as one hour in advance to get a good seat. Ending in SRO, we had people sitting on the floor in front of him for lack of seats and space. We didn’t take a count, but no doubt, it was one of our biggest turn-outs ever.

Billy opened with a joke that got a big laugh, and then it got serious. The state of affairs in our home country is shocking to those of us who live on the other side of the big pond. I got really upset when he told us that Alex Haley’s book, Roots, a Pulitzer Prize-winning novel, had been banned from the school shelves in Knoxville, Tennessee, where the author is from, and where I lived for 14 years!
Then, I checked it out for myself and discovered that just two days earlier, Knox County revised its ban after “weeks of community backlash, board member pressure, and statewide criticism, all unfolding in the same city where a 13-foot bronze statue of Haley has stood for nearly three decades.”

Billy Linville speaks at Nice’s Après-Midi
Thank goodness! There is some hope for sanity, but Billy’s message was strong and important. He went on to discuss what we can do, and that means uniting and standing up for our rights and beliefs, even as expats living in France.

LILLIAN SINGS
Friday night instead of attending one of three of the unofficial expat apéros, I went to hear Lillian Palmer sing her heart out—accompanied by Randy Tressler on keyboard—at the LIKES Café Culturel et Galerie.
The Likes Café Culturel et Galerie is one of those small, independent places that many visitors to Nice never discover, but locals who enjoy art, music, and conversation tend to love. It’s located at 4 Rue Beaumont, just behind the Port area near Place Garibaldi. It’s not really a café in the traditional French sense. It’s more of a hybrid art gallery, cultural salon, live music venue, lecture and discussion space and small wine and café bar.

Lillian & Randy
The owner, Gilda Abrami, appears to be the driving force behind the venue and is frequently mentioned in reviews for creating a warm, welcoming atmosphere. She appeared to be the only person taking drink orders and handing them out without even a tray. It took a while to be served, but she managed to do it, in spite of it being a full house of aficionados, and possibly even students of Lillian’s learning to sing. (Be sure to ask her about her singing lessons if you dare!)
Lillian will have other live performances, so if you want to be on her mailing list, visit her website.
MEET THE AUTHORS

One of the highlights of the weekend in Nice was the annual Meet the Authors gathering, hosted by local author Ella Dyer and emceed by author and writing coach Lisa Anselmo. Held at the Nova (previously Le Carré d’Or) on Place Magenta, the event brought together a fascinating group of writers with ties to France and the Côte d’Azur, who shared readings from their latest works, insights into their creative journeys, and lively conversations with attendees.

Host, Ella Dyer

Emcee, Author Lisa Anselmo
From memoir and fiction to cultural commentary and personal reflections, the afternoon was a reminder of the rich literary community that flourishes on the Riviera. As always, it was an inspiring opportunity to connect with authors, readers, and fellow lovers of France. And a special opportunity to buy their books…signed by the author! I came home with a few, like I always do (it’s very important to support our North American authors living in France!).
LIFE’S A BEACH

Yesterday I was determined to get to the beach…so I’m putting the proverbial pen down in exchange for suntan lotion and a new book to read! See you next week in Paris!
A la prochaine…
