The sun shone so brightly into my Niçois apartment yesterday morning (Le Matisse) that I was blinded by the light and could barely see the screen of my computer on the table inside. My bag was stuffed with a lot of new clothing I had purchased during a birthday shopping spree last week and was zipped and ready to be rolled onto the 5 p.m. train to Paris…but it sat there as unprepared as I was to leave the sunshine of the Riviera and the blue water of the Mediterranean.

Monday afternoon and into the evening Brian Dunhill with Cross Border Planning and I hosted a group of Expats at the Hôtel Ellington attending the North American Expat Financial Forum for four hours of presentations by a variety of financial experts. There were several of our old friends and many new ones who came to hear the speakers and partake of the valuable information as well as the free-flowing wine and hors d’oeuvres.

When we ended the event and everyone headed down to the bar for drinks and charcuterie/fromage platters, it was a great chance to take photos and hear what the attendees had to say after listening to the four presentations. Several of them had attended our conference in Nice a few years ago and as a result, moved there — now happier than ever. This is always our “raison d’être” — to help people fulfill their goals, not just for investment purposes, but for enriching their lives by offering new options…perhaps ideas they hadn’t thought of before.

If you couldn’t attend the seminar, but have financial questions for any of the speakers, do not hesitate to contact them:

* Brian Dunhill and James McEvoy, Cross Border Planning
* Bruno Gruat and Christelle Colairo, Moneycorp Currency Experts
* Peter Zipper, Caye International Bank
* Adrian Leeds, Adrian Leeds Group

I’d like to do more events in Nice, specifically for North Americans, and am hoping to begin an “Après Midi” with a speaker at least once a quarter, that would be offered free of charge. People of all nationalities would be welcome, of course, but it’s been on my mind for a long time to bring together the North American community in Nice in the same way that the community in Paris is so close and cohesive. In Nice the community seems to be a bit diluted by the British and other Anglophones who have always had such a strong presence in the region, leaving the Americans mildly on their own. Stay tuned for more information as we plan something very soon!

A special thanks goes to Les Young who creatively placed photos of me on lots of fun things…such as a coffee mug, a Galeries Lafayette billboard, a postage stamp, the chocolate design on a café crème, paintings in a museum, a wine label, a variety of others as well as a slice of toast! The funny thing is that there used to be someone in my life whose anger I complained “turned me to toast.” And there I was, turned to toast. Thanks Les for taking a bad memory and turning it into something really sweet and funny!

A la prochaine…
