On New and Different Tracks

For the past 20 years, I’ve been devoted to helping people enrich their lives by moving to France or experiencing what it has to offer. That happened as a result of my own experience and wanting to share what I learned with others. I also want to help them through the maze of bureaucracy and cultural divides that makes the road to their destination a very rocky one and difficult to maneuver. This doesn’t mean that I denounced my American roots — “au contraire” — the move to France was not about what I was leaving, but about discovering how much more of the world there is to experience and how broadening it is to a view of life in general.

In some ways, that devotion to this cause has narrowed my own world in other ways. It’s not at all unusual for someone who is focused on a singular track to not explore much beyond that track. It’s how we become so proficient in a particular subject, become experts in our field, leading to survival and ultimately to success. But, that doesn’t leave much time to leave the track and learn a variety of new and different things. This describes how I perceive what’s happened to me along the way: I live and breathe life in France, issues surrounding French real estate and the cultural divide that hits us in the face like sand in the wind. That’s the track I’ve been on…until confinement.

The confinement has changed the focus and freed up time to open my mind to a wide variety of other things. There are few clients with which to consult, no properties that we can visit, no conferences to attend or obligations to be anywhere but at my desk or in my bed. While emails are being answered and my web development team is working diligently on a new website (as am I), there’s a world of lore out there to be tapped and devoured. Never before have I had the time to dig so deep into other realms.

I see our confinement as a kind of retreat. It’s not a punishment or a prison, but a way of resetting my metabolism in a way, or a repositioning of the mirror to get a different perspective. I am learning more than ever before now that the tracks have branched off into different directions. A lot of it comes from the bombardment of messages being shared among family and friends, filled with useful and interesting information, along with the jokes that make us laugh and the sad tales of friends struggling with the virus or other issues.

As I wrote in the April 1st nouvellettre®, I’m doing Groundhog Days: every morning, it all starts over again…each time the same; each time a little bit different and a little bit better. Life is stress-free, relaxing, reflective.

Let me share with you some of the enlightening things that have pierced my new, more open tracks of life:

The Coronation by Charles Eisenstein. Of all the things I list here, if this is the only one you read or do, then I will feel accomplished. Eisenstein is a public speaker, gift economy advocate, and the author of six books. The Coronation, an essay about the Coronavirus pandemic, is one of the most brilliant writings I’ve ever read and seriously questions and sums up what we’re all experiencing. As I read, I underline key points, but there are too many of those to even note here. I warn you — it’s 20 printed pages, available as a pdf or as an audio essay you can listen to while you’re taking your daily walk or just relaxing on an easy chair.

Afterlife, in between life and past lives…Dolores Cannon’s “Between Death and Life — Conversations with a Spirit.” Dolores Cannon was a hypnotherapist specializing in past life regression, a career that spanned almost 50 years. In her early days in hypnotherapy, she discovered reincarnation and learned how to develop and refine her own unique method of hypnosis known as Quantum Healing Hypnosis Technique® (QHHT®). My daughter was a student of hers. Cannon “transitioned from this world” on October 18, 2014, leaving behind “incredible accomplishments in the fields of alternative healing, hypnosis, metaphysics, and past life regression, but most impressive of all was her innate understanding that the most important thing she could do was to share information.” She is sharing it with me now, as a close member of my family passed away yesterday morning in a New Orleans nursing home, not of the coronavirus, but of “natural causes.” It gives me great comfort to know that he’s in a much happier place now, if I take Cannon’s messages to heart, there is much life after death, beyond and between.

Mushrooms first started to interest me when I had one cup of Mushroom Hero tea in a Los Angeles seaside café that took me from feeling really sick to feeling really well. My daughter was already aware of the beneficial properties of mushrooms, but I didn’t have a clue. Then, she introduced me to Paul Stamets, an American mycologist, and entrepreneur, an author and advocate of medicinal fungi and mycoremediation, who is at the core of a new film titled “Fantastic Fungi.” These are descriptive words I had never even heard. Have you? The film, visually stunning and incredibly informative, besides simply a blast to watch, will change the way you see mushrooms for the rest of your life…and may even encourage you to join Stamets and his followers in his quest for discovering the earth’s most fantastic fungi.

Now let’s now go from the earth back to the heavens. You might think I’m nuts, but here’s another film I dare you to watch that could change what you believe or disbelieve about extra-terrestrials! First Contact is a documentary narrated by Golden Globe-winning actor James Woods. It is “the true story of Darryl Anka’s close encounter with a UFO, after which he became a trance channel for an extraterrestrial entity named Bashar.” Just notice Anka’s/Bashar’s clarity of thought and truth and then tell me it isn’t for real!

I’ll stop there…it’s enough new discovery for a few days, right?
