Winning On Wine

Exterior view of the Musee Picasso in the Marais in Paris

On the third Thursday of each November, over a million cases of Beaujolais Nouveau are shipped to all parts of the world. “Le Beaujolais Nouveau est arrivé!” Over 65 million bottles, nearly half of the region’s total annual production, will be distributed around the world. It has become a worldwide race to be the first to serve to this new wine of the harvest.

IN 2002, over 11 million bottles of Beaujolais Nouveau were sold in France. 2.3 million bottles were sold in the Paris region alone. A total of 25,500,000 bottles of Beaujolais Nouveau were sold for export to over 150 countries.

The big day of celebration is Thursday, November 20th. Enjoy the fact that while supplies last you can buy any Beaujolais anywhere for almost any price and it will be good! So that’s why our favorite wine expert, Max Bachellerie, is offering our Parler Paris readers an opportunity to purchase a DIFFERENT and special wine at below-retail prices…not a Baujolais Nouveau, but a…

CUVEE de L’ARJOLLE 2001

This month Max is suggesting a red wine which has the typical “Bordeaux taste,” CUVEE de L’ARJOLLE 2001. It’s made of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon and 50% Merlot grapes which are, all wine lovers know, the two main grape varieties used in Bordeaux.

This domaine de L’ARJOLLE is located in the COTES de THONGUES (Vin De Pays). The THONGUES (no thong jokes, please) is a small river which crosses an area between Beziers and Pezenas before joining the river Herault close to Cap D’Agde.

The owner of this great domaine (more than 100 hectares) is known as an innovator (he brought Zinfandel vines to France) and has vinified the 2001 especially to enhance the primary aromas of red fruit and green pepper for the Cabernet Sauvignon and black fruit and truffle for the Merlot making this a wine of quintessential Bordeaux flavor.

The wine is absolutely tasty and smooth without rough tanins. Plus, you can keep it for two or three years or more. The price is a ridiculous 6.90 Euros per bottle (minimum order is 1 case — 12 bottles).
