Chocoholics Unite In Paris
I woke up this morning thinking I would write about chocolate since I’m planning to attend the Salon du Chocolat tonight. But, then my inbox was overflowing with mail in response to Monday’s newsletter and one was of particular interest. (More about chocolate later.)
If you didn’t have a chance to read it or want to refresh your memory, click on /parlerparis/issues/pparis25-10-04.html
Monday’s article makes no political statement whatsoever, although it does report on what I and others have discovered. I quoted statements others made in open, published forums — as their opinions, not mine. And I love that you readers really do read and let your emotions run high! From the dozens of letters I received, it is clear that in this election, the sides are violently opposed. It frightens me, however, that we Americans can be so far apart in basic ideology.
One very important letter comes from Robert R. Pingeon, the Chairman of Republicans Abroad France. Like a resumé, he noted all the activities the organization has participated in related to voter registration. I was certainly unaware of them…perhaps I’m just not on his mailing list?? And there was so little on the Internet — barely his contact information. I publish information from all non-profit organizations that inform me of their activities as a community service in Wednesday’s Community Calendar, but he nor anyone else has yet to send them to me. I welcome it in all fairness to both sides. M. Pingeon, please be my guest!
Now, on a more delectable topic — French chocolate. Being the chocoholic that I am, I jumped at the chance to attend the opening of the annual “Salon du Chocolat!” Starting tomorrow at 10 a.m.
(till 9 p.m.) you’ll be able to spend hours, even days, discovering the world’s best chocolate producers, both large and small. Continuing through November 1st at the Paris Expo, Porte de Versailles, there is expected to be over 20 ongoing demonstrations and plenty of opportunities for tasting. Tickets are 11 Euros for one day of chocolate immersion and you can bet I’m planning on have a totally chocolate dinner tonight!
A la prochaine…

Astro-Paris by Eric Francis
The Flyby and the Grand Quintile
====================
Those who are space watchers or news watchers may have noticed that Tuesday, Oct. 27 was the historic flyby of the Cassini Space Probe past Titan, the great moon of Saturn. What most people don’t know is that part of the Cassini mission, a cooperative effort of the European Space Agency, the Italian Space Agency and the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (NASA’s contractor) is being run from just outside Paris at L’Observatoire de Meudon. Tomorrow I will be visiting the observatory and interviewing Dr Athena Coustenis, a long-time scholar of Titan, who is in charge of three experiments on the mission, including two on the Huygens Space Probe that will be dropped from Cassini to Titan in early January. I’ll have more on that interview, and a first-hand look around the laboratory and its magnificent outdoor facilities, next week in Astro-Paris.
News from the world of astrology is just as big. Overnight tonight is the historic total eclipse of the Moon in Taurus. Eclipses themselves always feel a bit momentous, but the reason this one is historic is that it comes with a G
rand Quintile aspect, that is, a five-pointed star that links together Jupiter, Pluto, Uranus, the Moon and Saturn.
The eclipse is responsible for a lot of the tense, uneasy pressure that many people are feeling. Eclipses always feel a little edgy. This one happens to be unusually intense because it’s a total eclipse and because it’s in one of the Moon’s own signs, Taurus. But the results should far exceed the costs, based on the presence of the Grand Quintile, which is an aspect that says, in a word, FLOW. This is really a time, despite all control impulses to the contrary, to go with the flow.
Scorpio Birthdays This Week
Healthy relationships change, and change regularly. A total lunar eclipse around the time of your solar return, placed in your opposite sign Taurus, says strongly that you need to move with the changes that have entered one particularly close relationship. It may seem like you are not the one who is changing; you have all the evidence that your partner is. But in fact your whole idea of what it means to relate to another person is being completely revised by several deep inner shifts that are all your own. Be grateful that the progress in the lives of those close to you is allowing you to grow and become the person you need to be. Keep checking in; update your files every day, because that’s how fast we change. This is the mark of sanity.
