Dear Parler Paris Reader,

When I was a kid, the Beatles were all the rage. We were screaming at the Fab Four with their long hair while our parents were pulling their hair out!

Today, the Beatles are legendary and the radio waves are filled with electronic sound, more in tune with our technologically savvy kids who have been on a computer keyboard since birth.

Face it. Electronic music is here to stay and for all of you who want to discover its world, Paris Technopol is making it happen for you.

Technopol is an association that was formed to defend the rights of electronic music, and for the promotion and recognition of electronic music, as a result of a cancellation of a Polaris Techno event in Lyon, February 24, 1996. The event did not take place because “these evenings systematically generate the traffic of narcotics.”
Public opinion has also accused the young people who listen to techno to be “doped.” Funny, that’s what they said about the Beatles.

This event, if it had taken place, would have promoted tens of artists and performers of electronic music and almost 10,000 fans.

Comprised of organizers of events, music producers, media and artists of the electronic scene, it is set up in particular to provide council and legal assistance for the organization of events and has intervened on several occasions in the cases of abuse. Like any association, Technopol functions with volunteer memebers, a Board of Directors, and a small team (sacrificing their summer holidays for the cause!).

Starting today, and throughout the week in Paris and the surrounding areas, there are more than one hundred venues which take part in “Rendez-Vous Electroniques 2003.” Electronic music will be featured in dozens of spots…bars, restaurants, discoteques, night clubs, stores, galleries, all culminating on Saturday, September 13th, with the official Techno Parade to assert the rights to the festival and freedom of musical expression. (It leaves at 1 p.m. from Denfert Rochereau.)
